Ukuleles

**In class we have been working with Uke's tuned to the "Canadian" tuning, or low A, D, F#, B (Thickest to thinnest string). All materials I have posted use this tuning, whereas the websites I have linked to use the "Standard" C Tuning. There is a link to a tuning site that will tell you how to tune your ukulele. Please email me if you have any questions!

All about the Ukulele:

In the chart to the left are all of the different parts of a ukulele. In class we focused on the head, neck, body, fret board, and tuning pegs. Students should be able to recognize and name these parts on a ukulele.

The Pentatonic Scale:

Before chords, we explored different notes that are "picked" or "plucked" on the ukulele - the picture to the right shows the notes we practiced and how to read the fret board notation. These notes are used for the songs "Safari," "Rocky Mountain," "Oh Susanna" and "Up on the Housetop." All of these songs can be downloaded below.
