Color Wheel Activities

The color wheel is a way of demonstrating how different primary, secondary, or tertiary colors relate and mix with each other. One of the easiest things in nature to relate a color wheel to is the rainbow: The different colors of light (starting with primary colors: red, yellow, and blue) shine through and overlap in the water vapor, causing them to mix and create new (secondary and tertiary) colors. Below are some activities to explore mixing colors - the blank pie charts can be filled in with paint, markers, pencil crayons or crayons, and the other activities have their materials listed.

Grid Expansions

The grid expansion process is used to enlarge a picture by hand. The original drawing has a grid drawn on top of it, and the artists' job is to copy what is in each box into the larger grid next to it. Here are some easy grid expansions to get started :) Right click on the images to download them
